SIMPLE TIP NUMBER TWELVE: TWELVE BACK TO ONE

SIMPLE TIP NUMBER 12

TWELVE BACK TO ONE

Control Your Lawyers

In this blog series, we have reviewed eleven main themes.  For your business you may rest easier if you keep the necessary themes organized in your “need to know” reference materials.  You will not know all the specific answers, (neither will your hated lawyer know everything), but if you have a handle on the themes; if you have your resourceful contacts that can help you per theme, you can rest more easily.

When conceptually you struggle to understand these themes, or when they are too confusing or when you are faced with unknown and unfamiliar situations within these themes, then consider consulting your hated lawyer. Lawyers are much more able to help you before a specific problem arises than they are after matters have “festered.” Vision and anticipation are key.   I often relate to that 40 year old FRAM oil filter commercial about where the mechanic performed a full engine overhaul that could have been avoided with a mere regular oil filter replacement.  Just like the mechanic says, “you can pay me now or you can pay me later.”

As earlier promised, not only should you know your lawyer, you will want to know two, three or more from different law firms and perhaps you should consider knowing attorneys of different “vintages.”  (E.G., Lawyers in their 30s, 40s, 50s and perhaps even in their 60s).

“Why would I want to know more than one lawyer?”
