LAST TIME, we discussed themes a business owner must know about the DUI laws and processes. At the end of the post, I asked about ladies in the system and whether they receive better treatment?
I have no national statistics. I have no state statistics. Yet, merely an observation of your local sheriff’s daily arrests log can sadden all of us.
Generally, ladies simply cannot drink as much as men. Yet, they seem to frequent establishments and functions. They have their own vehicles. They have their own money. They make their own errors in judgment.
A question that needs asked is whether they have their own safety net. The laws equally apply to them.
Thus, we see numerous arrests of ladies, young, middle and … not so young.
It is Saturday morning as I write this. In my on modest sized county, in just the last five days, there were 180 arrests! 58 or a third of them were ladies! Sad indeed.
- Felony drug possession
- Domestic battery
- Many Driving Under the Influence
- Felony driving under the influence for third offense.
- Disturbing the Peace
- Mental Health Court
- Grand Theft
- Reckless Driving
- Malicious Injury to Property
- Driving Without Privileges
- No Contact Order Violation
- Domestic Battery in presence of children.
What can this mean for the business owner/manager? Ladies do not typically receive favorable treatment in the criminal law and are often times single mothers. You want to be attuned to what they are going through, the devastation they fear and what consequences they face. As Driving Under the Influence charges, Driving without Privileges charges and Leaving the Scene of an Accident charges can result in driver’s license suspensions, it can be more than difficult to focus on their work for you. If they become too distracted to consistently and competently perform their tasks for you, what can you do? Naturally, before you implement any adverse actions toward them, you will first want to consult….. your hated lawyer.
